CHARLOTTE (AP) — Hundreds of people attended a candlelight vigil to remember a Charlotte high school student who was shot to death last weekend.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg police were in the crowd Thursday night after concerns were raised about possible gang violence.
John Darrell Kempson Jr., 17, was shot to death March 17 during a fight at a party.
Armani Compton McDonald, 19, has been charged with murder. Terry Sekyere, 18, is charged with assault.
Deputy Police Chief Randy Hagler says more officers have been assigned at five high schools this week because of comments on social media. Hagler says there has been no violence reported.
Kempson’s funeral is scheduled Saturday.
