RALEIGH (AP) — Gov. Bev Perdue is requesting assistance from the U.S. Small Business Administration for three North Carolina counties which experienced damages from last weekend’s severe weather.
Perdue’s office announced Monday that the request was submitted on behalf of Cabarrus, Cherokee and Mecklenburg counties.
Local and state emergency management teams were out on Monday with the SBA staff surveying the extent of the tornado damage in the hardest hit areas. Teams are expected to look at 170 homes in Cabarrus and Mecklenburg counties, and more homes and businesses in Cherokee County.
The National Weather Service confirmed one EF-2 tornado swept across Cherokee County Saturday, while another struck near the Mecklenburg and Cabarrus county line.
