Salisbury’s girls soccer team beat Davie 1-0 on Monday to improve to 2-1.
Whitney Brown scored on a free kick for the Hornets’ goal.
Salisbury goalkeeper Kristel Rodriguez and the work of the back foursome of Susannah Dixon, Emma Labovitz, Kristin Harman and Kaylin Hunter keyed the victory.
“We were outshot mightily,” SHS coch Matt Parrish said. “We only had one shot in the first half — but it went in.”
Salisbury is home against Davie on Thursday at 7 p.m.
Prep golf
In NPC golf played at McCanless on Monday, Statesville won with a 154 total.
East Rowan (160), South Rowan (170), West Rowan (174) and Carson (175) followed the Greyhounds.
Statesville’s Jack Archibald was medalist with a 36.
East scorers were Jared Hough (38), James Lohr (40), Conner Lowman (41) and Weston Rogers (41).
South scorers were Davis Richards (37), Evan Neas (41), Josh Pope (45) and Hunter Chapman (47).
West scorers were Jake Kennedy (38), Chris Hassard (43), Coyte Kyles (46) and Denny Triche (47).
Carson scorers were Ryan Craft (40), Andrew Purcell (42), Christian Shuping (46) and Collin Stamey and Logan Overcash (47s).
Prep baseball
Davie’s baseball team stayed unbeaten with a 6-3 win against West Stanly on Monday. UNC Wilmington signee Ryan Foster was the winning pitcher. Will Beeson earned a save.
Foster, Nick Boswell and Corey Randall led a 12-hit attack with three each.
East Davidson stayed unbeaten with a 10-3 win against Southern Guilford. Preston Gammons had four RBIs to back Avery Bowles’ pitching.
Prep tennis
East Rowan beat West Rowan 9-0 in NPC tennis on Monday.
Justin Allen, Evan Rodgers, Dillon Brewer, Jeremy Price, Hunter McClintock and Cameron Thomas were singles winners for the Mustangs.
Allen-Rodgers, Brewer-Thomas and Price-McClintock won in doubles.
West lost to Mooresville 9-0 in its opening match.

Prep basketball
The All-SPC boys basketball team includes A.L. Brown’s Tevin Stark and Derrick Copeland; Northwest Cabarrus’ Corey Seager; Concord’s Kendall Knorr, Connor Burchfield and Darren Black; Robinson’s Elijah Hampton and Brody Koerner; Hickory Ridge’s Seth Still and Kellen Lipscomb; Central Cabarrus’ Dey’Quan Heath, and Mount Pleasant’s Dezmond Leach.
Knorr, who is headed to Navy, was named SPC Player of the Year. Robinson’s Joe Pike was named SPC Coach of the Year.
The All-SPC girls basketball team includes A.L. Brown’s Sara Tuttle and Endia Cannon; Northwest Cabarrus’ Melanie Zeiler; Concord’s Alleson Briggs, Emia Black and Nakiah Black; Robinson’s Isabel Bernal, Kelsi Mahoney and Daylin Leftwich; Hickory Ridge’s Jordan Strode and Kiana Davis, and Central Cabarrus’ Divonnie Powell.
Stode, who is headed to St. Joseph’s, was named SPC Player of the Year. Hickory Ridge’s Jessica Kulp and Robinson’s Lin Smithson shared coaching honors.
Prep football
YVC member East Montgomery has named Phil Collett as its new head football coach.
Collett has been coaching at Auburn High in Riner, Va., since 2007.
SPC member Central Cabarrus has named Donnie Kiefer as its new head football coach.
Kiefer, 39-24-1 the past five seasons at Tuscola, will be returning to his alma mater.
7th-grade hoops
Knox’s girls beat China Grove 38-17 on Monday.
Tyzarea Alexander scored 12 points for the Trojans (11-2). Niah Spratt and Kiilantra Mashore had seven each, and Kirsten Igram scored six.
Keara McClary led the Red Devils with five points.n Erwin’s girls clinched a share of the league title by beating West Rowan 30-10.
Erwin (12-1) was led by Micah Furr with 10 points. Destiny Jackson added six points. Breya Philpot and Courtney Wagner had six rebounds apiece.
West Rowan fell to 1-12.
West Rowan’s boys topped Erwin 39-29.
Kortez Weeks scored 19 points for the second-place Bulldogs. West (11-2) also got seven points each from Rodney Howell and Toby Brown and five from Jovon Quarles. Quarles had 14 rebounds, while Howell pulled down eight.
Erwin (4-9) was paced by Lucas Morton with 15 points. Norman Kelly added 10.
Hoops meeting
The Salisbury-Rowan Basketball Association will have a meeting on Sunday, March 11, at Hall Gym at 7 p.m.
Hoops league
Registration for Hurley YMCA adult church basketball is $450 per team.
The coaches meeting is on March 12 at 6:30 p.m. in the gym. Practice times and rules will be discussed. Practice starts on March 12. The regular season starts March 19.
College hoops
Catawba’s women’s team will play in the regional at 6 p.m. on Friday at USC Aiken.
Samford beat Appalachian State 54-43 in the SoCon tournament women’s championship game on Monday.
College football
DB Jamill Lott (A.L. Brown) sat out the first day of spring drills at Appalachian on Monday. He’s recovering from a knee injury.
College softball
Livingstone lost 5-1 and 13-2 to Virginia University of Lynchburg on Monday. Shaniqua Harrison pitched well in the opener for the Blue Bears. Shaniquia Alston had two hits.
Corrie Kondek (Salisbury) went 4-for-6 in Wake Tech’s first two games.
College baseball
Catawba stayed at No. 23 in this week’s Collegiate Baseball Division II Coaches Poll.
Tusculum is 12th. UNC Pembroke is 20th. West Florida is No. 1.
Catawba will play two games in Alabama today. The schedule had to be revised after the Indians played Sunday instead of traveling. The Indians will battle Stillman this afternoon and will tangle with West Alabama tonight.
Umpires
Anyone interested in umpiring middle school baseball should attend a meeting at Erwin tonight at 7 p.m.
Intimidators
Kannapolis Intimidators individual game tickets are now officially on sale.
Opening day is April 5.
