SALISBURY — A South Jackson Street woman was taken into custody Saturday night while police investigated gunshots in the area.
Police said 29-year-old Keon Okelly was not charged in the shooting, but she was charged with an outstanding probation violation, possession of cocaine and taking cocaine into the jail.
According to a Salisbury Police report, officers stopped Okelly as she was walking near where the shots were fired.
Okelly initially gave authorities a fake name, the report said, but an officer was familiar with Okelly. After running her name through a police database, authorities found there was an outstanding warrant for her arrest.
When they tried to handcuff her, Okelly pulled away from officers and continued to struggle until officers drive- stunned her with a Taser.
She was arrested and taken to the magistrate’s office and then to the Rowan County Detention Center.
Deputies at the jail found a small amount of cocaine in Okelly’s sock.
She was charged with probation violation, felony cocaine possession and felony possession of a controlled substance on a penal institution.
She was in jail Monday morning under a $10,500 bond.
