Rowan-Salisbury School System Superintendent Dr. Judy Grissom was recently the guest reader at the Communities In Schools’ First Grade Book Club at Hanford Dole Elementary School.
Grissom read “The Mitten” by Jan Brett to first grade students and their parents.
The students, parents and staff at Hanford Dole were excited to have Grissom present the book of the month during the book club.
Grissom stated that working with students is what she loves most about her job.
The First Grade Book Club is designed to increase parental involvement at Hanford Dole.
Each child and their guest received breakfast, a copy of the book being presented and activities that they can do with their parents when reading the book together at home.
A grant through Target makes it possible to host the book clubs.
