KANNAPOLIS —Due to recent changes to the North Carolina landfill ban, increasing numbers of electronic goods, including laptops, desktops, monitors, video displays, printers, scanners, computer mice and keyboards have been banned from N.C. landfills. To assist residents in complying with these restrictions, the Kannapolis Public Works Department is opening an e-waste recycling collection center at the Department of Public Works.
The drop-off e-waste recycling facility will be open at 1401 Bethpage Road Monday through Thursday between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. Residents can call the Public Works Office at 704-920-4200 to schedule an appointment on Fridays to drop-off oversized/bulky electronics recyclables. Public Works Department personnel will be on hand for all pre-scheduled appointments to assist in unloading and drop-off of oversized/bulky items. Assisted drop-off of e-waste is not available without an appointment and pick up or curbside collection of electronic waste recycling is not available at this time. Please call 704-920-4200 with questions.
Bridge replacement
The N.C. Department of Transportation (NCDOT) will be replacing the bridge over Irish Buffalo Creek along Orphanage Road. Construction is scheduled to begin in April and continue for 12 to 18 months.
The city has requested that the bridge be constructed to accommodate the future Irish Buffalo Creek Greenway. Detour routes are posted on area roads and a map of alternate routes is available on the city website. Please call NCDOT at 704-982-0101 with questions.
