A Ford Fusion crossed the center line on Jake Alexander Boulevard Wednesday evening, hitting a Honda Accord head-on and sending four people to the hospital.
The crash happened in the 1500 block about 5:30 p.m. but, according to emergency communications, none of the injuries appeared to be life-threatening.
A 23-year-old woman driving the Honda had injuries to her right leg and ankle, communications said. A 47-year-old woman driving the other car and her 26-year-old son were also taken to Rowan Regional Medical Center.
Initial calls indicated a woman was entrapped in her car. Two of the four passengers were taken away on stretchers.
The wreck, in the westbound lanes of Jake Alexander Boulevard, caused traffic to back up in both directions. Authorities diverted drivers heading west toward Statesville Boulevard onto Industrial Drive.
