The Humane Society of Rowan County is seeking nominations for the Susan J. Gloeckler Memorial Award presented each year to individuals who have made outstanding contributions to animal welfare.
Persons may be nominated for their ongoing efforts for and on behalf of animals or for a single act or rescue. Nominees may not be active members of the HSRC. Children and youth as well as adults may be nominated.
Nominations should be emailed to humanesocietyofrowancounty@windstream.net or mailed to HSRC, PO Box 295, Salisbury, NC 28145-0295 no later than Monday, Feb. 20. Please include the nominee’s name and contact information, an explanation of why you are nominating the person(s) and your name and contact information.
This year’s Gloeckler Awards presentation will be held on Saturday, Feb. 25, 1 p.m., at VFW Post 3006, 1200 Brenner Ave. in Salisbury during a hot dog lunch sponsored by Post 3006 for the HSRC. Recipients will be treated to lunch.
VFW member Jack Cornatzer approached the HSRC after reading Mark Wineka’s Salisbury Post article on Chance, the elusive dog that roamed Salisbury and neighboring areas for months before being caught on Jan. 2 and taken into the care of the HSRC. Cornatzer offered to organize a fundraising event to benefit Chance and other dogs acquired by the HSRC. “There’ll always be a Chance,” he said, and currently the organization is caring for more than 30 cats and dogs that have come from similar circumstances.
The public is invited to attend this fundraiser which will be held from 11 a.m -3 p.m. and the presentation at 1 p.m.
