SPENCER — Authorities arrested a man Tuesday who they say fired a bullet into an occupied car.
D’Andre Mitchell, of East Spencer, remain in the Rowan County jail Wednesday under a $100,000 bond. He is charged with discharging a firearm into an occupied property, injury to personal property and resisting, delaying or obstructing an officer.
The charges stem from a Jan. 11 incident in which Spencer Police officers responded to a call of shots fired at Whitehead Avenue and First Street. The investigation revealed that a bullet had struck a motor vehicle.
Spencer Police identified the shooter and obtained warrants for his arrest. An East Spencer officer saw the suspect Tuesday, but the man ran away after giving a false name.
Spencer Police officers, assisted by the East Spencer and Salisbury police departments and Rowan County sheriff’s deputies, located the Mitchell hiding inside a house in East Spencer, according to a press release issued by Spencer Police Chief Michael James.
