This year’s theme for the Lee Street Theatre third annual “10-minute” play festival is “Six Feet Under.”
Open call for scripts from residents of North and South Carolina with a submission deadline of March 31, 2012.
Guidelines
1. The play must be a comedy and incorporate the overall theme of “Six Feet Under”.
2. Play must be easy to stage on a small black box stage with limited sets and props.
3. Limited to no more than three characters.
4. Two stapled copies of each script, in proper format, must arrive on or before the deadline to Lee Street Theatre, Attn: Bill Greene, 201 Coventry Lane, Salisbury, NC 28147. No email entries.
5. Limit your entry to 3 scripts, please.
4. The script(s) must not have been previously staged by anyone in any way.
5. Enclose one cover sheet per playwright with contact information (include email address) and the title(s) of the submitted script(s), along with a one-sentence synopsis. To ensure unbiased judging, the playwright’s name must not appear anywhere on the script(s), which will not be returned.
Only the winning playwrights will be notified (by email) on April 20, after which time open auditions will be held. Directed by Justin Dionne, Piedmont Players Marketing Director and Catawba College Theater graduate.

‘This Has Been My Life’
“This Has Been My Life All My Life” is a special exhibition at Waterworks Visual Arts Center. This collaborative exhibition by photojournalist Sean Meyers and poet Janice Fuller will be on display through March 17.
The exhibition features works which pair photographs and poems based on interviewing and photographing residents at the Lutheran Home in Winston-Salem.
The opening reception of this exhibition is on Thursday, Jan. 26 from 6-8 p.m. and Meyers and Fuller will talk about their project. Refreshments will be served. This event is free and open to the public.

‘Miss Representation’
AAUW (American Association of University Women,) Salisbury Branch is hosting a screening and discussion of the documentary film “Miss Representation” on Saturday, Jan. 21 at 7 p.m. at the Looking Glass Theaters’s black box theatre, 405 N. Lee St.
Premiered at the Sundance Film Festival, the film was written and directed by Jennifer Siebel Newsom and exposes how main-stream media contribute to the under-representation of women in positions of power and influence in America. It challenges the media’s limited and often disparaging portrayals of women and girls, which make it difficult for women to achieve leadership positions and for the average woman to feel powerful herself.

Seeking pastel artists
The Pastel Society of North Carolina, in conjunction with the Appalachian Pastel Society and the Piedmont Pastel Society, is hosting a statewide exhibit for chalk pastelists. The juror is Marla Bagetta.

Knitting at Latta
Latta Plantation will hold a Beginning Knitting Workshop- on Saturday, Feb. 4 from 10 a.m.-3 p.m.
