EAST SPENCER — The East Spencer Fire Department received a new fire engine this week.
Engine 473 is a refurbished 2001 rescue pumper manufactured by HME. It is powered by a 350 horsepower Cummins diesel engine and has an Allison transmission.
It holds 700 gallons of water and 30 gallons of foam, pumping at a rated capacity of 1,500 gallons per minute. It is also equipped with a generator, ground ladders, 1,000 feet of 5-inch supply hose and related equipment.
Engine 473 has cab seating for four firefighters, and it is expected to be in service by the end of January. The newly reconditioned firetruck cost the town $115,000. It will replace a 1982 aerial platform truck.
The town is also served by a part-time paid staff of five firefighters, 30 volunteer firefighters, a command vehicle and two other firetrucks, a 1993 HME Custom Panther and a 1978 American LaFrance.
