Christmas Happiness: No income means trouble at holidays

Published 12:00 am Thursday, December 22, 2011

Imagine having no proof of income because you have no income — not even unemployment benefits.
That’s not an uncommon situation among families turning to Christmas Happiness for help this year.
With generous donations still coming in, the Rowan County Department of Social Services has decided to accept applications an additional day — 8 a.m.-2 p.m. today — to reach more children.
The agency is located at 1813 E. Innes St.
Applicants will need to bring Social Security cards for all household members and proof of household income.
Qualifying families receive a $25 voucher per child, a maximum of $100 per family, to buy Christmas gifts for children this week.
Meanwhile, the Post is still accepting donations to help more children this year and give next year’s fund a good start.
Bring contributions to the Salisbury Post, 131 W. Innes St., between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. weekdays or mail them to The Salisbury Post Christmas Happiness Fund, P.O. Box 4639, Salisbury, NC 28145-4639.
Make checks payable to the Christmas Happiness Fund and indicate how you wish your donations to be listed.
