Speed limit to be lowered on I-85 near Concord

Motorists traveling along I-85 between north Charlotte and Concord will need to reduce their speed where construction crews are widening the interstate and improving the I-85/I-485 interchange.
New speed limit signs will be installed on I-85 Tuesday and Wednesday nights, reducing the existing speed from 65 miles per hour to 55 mph. These reductions will make travel safer for motorists and for construction crews working behind the barrier wall in the median.
The speed limit reduction extends from south of Mallard Creek Church Road (Exit 46) to 1.3 miles north of N.C. 73 (exit 55). The Department has also placed “No Parking” signs throughout the project limits. The North Carolina State Highway Patrol will also increase enforcement through the work zone.
If motorists experience car trouble and need assistance, they can do the following:
Call *HP and receive assistance from Incident Management Patrol from 5:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Mondays-Fridays, and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturdays and Sundays;
Call *HP for assistance from Highway Patrol during overnight hours.
NCDOT reminds motorists to watch signs for construction information, stay alert and obey the posted speed limit.
