Cardboard license plate leads to arrest of Cleveland couple

SALISBURY — A Cleveland couple were arrested on Thursday after police said they were using a cardboard license plate.
According to Salisbury Police, David Wayne Hastings and his wife, Jessie Lee, were stopped in the 100 block of North Clay Street about 4 p.m.
When the officer asked if there was anything illegal in the car, Jessie Hastings said “there might be a pill or two,” the report said.
Police said they found several used hypodermic needles in the 1992 Ford Taurus, along with 30 hydrocodone pills.
The Hastingses, 2430 Woodleaf Barber Road, Cleveland, were both arrested.
David Hastings was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia. He also had an outstanding warrant for arrest for probation violation.
He was given a $1,800 bond.
Jessie Hastings was charged with felony possession of narcotics and possession of drug paraphernalia.
She was given a $2,500 bond. Both were in jail on Friday.
