Catawba College President Dr. Joseph Oxendine announced the hiring of Amy Harrell Williams as assistant to the president on Oct. 31. Williams replaces Linda Hamilton who retired from Catawba on Oct. 28 after 29 years of service.
Williams, a Salisbury native, graduated from Davidson College and has worked at Catawba since 2001. She joined the college as executive assistant to then-President Fred Corriher and served in that capacity during the last year before his retirement in 2002. For the past 10 years, she has served in the college’s development office as director of the Catawba Fund and academic grants.
Prior to joining Catawba, Williams was employed for seven years as the business manager for Piedmont Players Theatre Inc. She also worked for the Rowan County Chamber of Commerce as community relations director.
Williams is chair of Catawba’s Staff Council.
Williams’ parents are Sylvia Wiseman, retired former Lifestyles editor and writer for the Salisbury Post, and Tom Harrell, retired former president and general manager of WSTP and WRDX, who live in Salisbury. She is married to Kelly Williams of the Rowan County Sheriff’s Department and the two make their home in Mooresville.
