Authorities have taken three men into custody who they say committed an armed robbery near Catawba College then wrecked their getaway car about a mile away and tried to escape on foot.
According to Salisbury Police, the men were in a dark blue Jeep Cherokee and drove away from the robbery toward downtown Salisbury. After turning onto Institute Street, the Jeep hit a Ford van at the intersection of Institute and West Horah streets.
The men jumped from the Jeep and ran, but police caught all three and have taken them to the Salisbury Police Department. Officers quickly took the men away from the scene as a large crowd of bystanders gathered.
