SALISBURY ó They didnít win gold, but members of the Salisbury Parks and Recreation Department accepted a plaque Tuesday in Atlanta as one of the four best parks programs in the country for small cities.
The department was a finalist in the National Recreation and Park Association 2011 National Gold Medal competition among cities with populations between 25,000 and 50,000.
ěThis is a huge accomplishment to be one of only four finalists from across the nation,î department Director Gail Elder White said in a press release.
Elder White congratulated winner Parker, Colo.
ěWe extend our best wishes to Parker, Colorado. This was Parkerís fifth time as a finalist in this national competition, and Salisbury Parks and Recreation congratulates them sincerely on their receipt of this coveted award,î she said.
The Gold Medal is a particularly tough competition, Elder White said.
ěI am very proud of each and every person in our department and appreciate their constant devotion to the citizens of Salisbury,î she said.
