EAST SPENCER — A Salisbury man was arrested on 17 charges Saturday night after leading officers on a vehicle chase through East Spencer, police said.
According to an East Spencer Police Department report, officers responded to calls about suspicious activity in the area on North Long Street.
When officers attempted to stop 26-year-old Dennis Monroe Alexander, the report said, he sped away.
Alexander was stopped minutes later near the Boundary Street apartments, the report said, but not before he damaged one of the East Spencer police cars.
The damage was minor, according to Acting Police Chief Darren Westmoreland, with one broken light and some paint damage.
Alexander was charged with 13 failure to appear charges, seven of them being felony possession of marijuana charges.
He was also charged with felony fleeing to elude arrest, misdemeanor possession of an open alcohol container in the vehicle, misdemeanor assault on a law enforcement officer and driving while license revoked.
Alexander, of 654 Lynn Lane, was given a 105,500 bond and was in jail Monday.
