nTime: 7:30 p.m.
nRecords: North Rowan 3-6, 2-3 YVC; West Montgomery 6-2, 4-1 YVC
nSeries: North leads 5-2. There is some history here. From 1993-1996 the schools were rivals in the YVC when it was a stout 2A league that also included Salisbury and West Rowan. North won all four meetings with the Warriors in the 1990s.
nLast meetings: The schools clashed twice in 2010.
Northís 26-22 win late in the regular season keyed the Cavaliersí winning the league championship. All things considered, it probably was Northís best win of the season.
West Montgomery got payback when the teams had a rematch in the first round of the playoffs. The Warriors won that one 14-0, holding the Cavaliers to 74 yards of offense.
nLast week: Banged-up North Rowan managed to win 20-14 against Chatham Central. West Montgomery rolled over South Davidson 52-13.
nNext week: North Rowan wraps the regular season at home against South Davidson. West Montgomery is at rival East Montgomery to conclude the regular season.
nGame notes: The magic number of wins to be ěplayoff eligibleî is four, but it will be a major surprise if the Cavaliers get their fourth tonight.
West Montgomery is having a strong season, with its only losses coming to Burlington Cummings, a ranked 2A team, and Albemarle, ranked No. 2 in 1A.
WM beat South Stanly on the road, and thatís a team that beat North.
The biggest problem presented by WM is elusive QB Jaquil Capel, who may be the best player in the YVC. Heís rushed for 1,138 yards.
North will count on special teams ó the kicking of Parker Smith and the return abilities of Pierre Givens ó to stay in the game. Givens had a kickoff return TD last week.
