Outreach Christian Ministries hosting youth conference

SALISBURY ó A local church is hosting a city-wide youth conference this week, culminating in a weekend gospel concert.
Outreach Christian Ministries, 722 W. Horah St., will have nightly services beginning at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.
All churches and youth are invited to attend.
ěThis is an annual event we use to reach out to area churches and youth in the community,î said church youth leader Sherri Wilson.
The event is in its second year. This yearís theme is ěIgnite the Fire.î
The featured speaker during the conference is Bradley Taylor, associate minister of Outreach Christian Ministries. Taylor is a native of Salisbury.
ěIt is a way of us helping to empower and educate the youth,î Wilson said.
The goal of the conference is to give the youth the needed skills to go further in life and meet lifeís challenges, she said.
Beginning at 11 a.m. Saturday, there will be a series of workshops. There is a $5 registration fee to attend the workshops. Lunch will be provided. Giveaways and door prizes will be offered during the workshops.
The first workshop, ěBeware of Strange Fire,î will feature Evangelist Teasia Gist of Mount Calvary Holy Church in Salisbury. The second workshop, ěDrug Education,î will be led by Sgt. Wes Smith of the Rowan County Sheriffís Office. The final workshop, ěHas Your Fire Gone Out?î will be led by Sheryl Brown of New Life Holy Temple in East Spencer.
The conference will continue at 7 p.m. Saturday with a praise party and gospel concert where various singers and artists will perform.
Bradley Taylor will also speak during the 11:30 a.m. Sunday miracle service.
The events will end with a 4:30 p.m. bowling party at Woodleaf Lanes, 1811 W. Jake Alexander Blvd., Salisbury.
The event is sponsored and contributions were made by various local restaurants and businesses.
