SALISBURY — Homes, churches and other places rich with history are always the big draw for OctoberTour, but that’s not all it offers.
Friday night, historic downtown shops stayed open late for OctoberTour Night Out, giving folks a chance to frolic in the streets before taking in some of the city’s classic treasures.
Night Out patrons took full advantage, gobbling snacks, listening to music, showing off
their own pieces of history at a classic car gathering and even shaking hands with the most historic of all presidents, George Washington.
Today, the 36th annual OctoberTour takes place from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and continues Sunday noon to 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 and the forecast calls for sunny skies and mid-70s temperatures for the tour, which showcases 10 sites dating from 1770 to 1928.
And that’s not all.
During the tour, the 300 block of West Bank Street will be home to entertainment and food, including fare from local restaurants. There will be musical entertainment on the lawn of the Hall House, as well as a booth with information about the Historic Salisbury Foundation.
The artists of Plein Air Carolina will be painting at various sites during the tour as part of the Oil Painters of America Paint Out.
The 63rd Regiment of the N.C. Confederate Troops Reactivated will again lead a lantern-light tour of the Old Lutheran Cemetery.
Other events will be taking place around town, and of course there will be homes, a church, a mill and a cemetery offering their history to anyone who wants to take a look, including one that hasn’t been on the tour before, the Arthur Reynolds House at 129 S. Ellis Street.
