When the apostle Paul visited the town of Ephesus, he described it as being full of witchcraft and sorcery. Shakespeare brought that into his description of Ephesus, the setting for his play “A Comedy of Errors.”
Piedmont Players director Reid Leonard zeroed in on that, and so the upcoming youth production is full of supernatural beings like vampires, witches and werewolves. The spookiness will add to the fun and get everyone into the Halloween spirit a bit early this year.
Despite the scary trappings, “A Comedy of Errors” is pure farce, as the title suggests, and hinges on hilarious confusion. Two sets of identical twins, separated at birth, provide the basis for ongoing incidents of mistaken identity, within a lively plot of quarrels, arrests, and a grand courtroom denouement.
The show will be performed at The Norvell Theater Sept. 23 and 30 at 7:30 p.m. and Sept. 24 and Oct. 1 at 2:30 and 7:30 p.m. Ticket prices are $10 for adults, students and seniors $8. The box office opens to the public on Sept. 19.
The Norvell Theater is located at 135 E. Fisher St. For information, call 704-633-547.
