nGame notes: University Christian had a winning record last season and was ranked 20th among Floridaís 2A teams. David Penland, who graduated from University Christian, is the first-year coach of the blue-and-gold Christians.
University Christian had a 50-man roster in 2010, so it figures to have more depth than the Cavaliers.
University Christian owns a proud tradition that includes six state championships, but it hasnít won once since 1994.
North got in the win column last week by stifling East defensively.
North has only managed 117.3 yards per game so far ó ranking seventh among the eight local teams ó but the Cavaliersí defensive numbers are solid. North already has created 14 turnovers, including 10 fumble recoveries. Kenyatta Thomas, Jordan Kimber, Kasaun Coney and Malik Ford have made interceptions.
North is allowing 47.0 passing yards per game, second to Salisbury in the rankings and 19.0 points a game, which ranks fourth.
Malik Jones leads Northís rushing attack with 88 yards (11th in the county). T.J. Allen is fifth in passing with 15 completions for 133 yards and two scores. Heís thrown TD passes to Tydler Watlington and Parker Smith.
North could use a solid performance with a tough YVC opener at ranked South Stanly looming.
