SALISBURY — Police are seeking the public’s help identifying a woman they call a “person of interest” in the Aug. 31 homicide of Rigoberto Angeles-Resendiz.
Investigators say the woman goes by “Nikki” and is believed to often be in areas near Long Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue. They did not say what her connection may be to the homicide.
On Tuesday, the Salisbury Police Department released an image of the woman from a video surveillance camera. The agency did not say where or when the image was made.
Police were called to Foster Lane about 6:30 a.m. last Wednesday after a school bus driver and elementary school children discovered the body of Angeles-Resendiz in a still-running car.
Police said the 21-year-old Kannapolis man died from a gunshot wound to the head.
On Thursday, authorities identified Quamaine Deshawn Patterson, 18, as a suspect in the killing and obtained a warrant for his arrest. Patterson turned himself in at the Salisbury Police Department later that day and was charged with first-degree murder.
Patterson remained in the Rowan County Detention Center on Tuesday without bond.
Police have not disclosed a possible motive for the murder.
Authorities ask anyone with information about the identity or whereabouts of the woman to contact the Salisbury Police Department at 704-638-5333 or Crime Stoppers at 1-866-639-5245.
