Red Cross rolls out blood drive schedule for September

The American Red Cross and Delta Air Lines are partnering during September for the ěRace Your Way to a Weekend Getawayî promotion. All presenting volunteer donors in September will be entered into a regional drawing for a pair of domestic roundtrip tickets courtesy of Delta Air Lines and a $500 gift card.
The Red Cross is urging immediate blood and platelet donations in areas unaffected by Hurricane Irene and asks that people in affected areas consider donating blood once itís safe to do so.
The blood supply was already low before the storm and Irene has already caused the cancellation of more than 72 blood drives across the Carolinas region, resulting in a shortfall of more than 2,400 blood donations over the past few days.
Donors must be at least 17 years of age or older, 16 with parental consent, and weigh at least 110 pounds. Donors 18 years of age and under must meet specific height and weight requirements.
