Piedmont Players Theatre has announced its new season.
The season kicks off in October with “Dreamgirls,” a musical about the R & B acts of the 1960s and winner of six Tonys.
In December, Ray Cooney’s “It Runs in the Family” will be performed. Set in a hospital, this play is a British farce, with lots of door-slamming and mistaken identity.
February brings “Cyrano de Bergerac,” the legendary romance about a quick-witted swashbucker with a big heart and a big nose.
In April, it’s “Company,” a Stephen Sondheim musical that follows five married, once married or soon to be married couples and their mutual friend Robert, a 30-something bachelor who has been unable to connect in a long-term relationship and is weighing the pros and cons of married life.
“You Can’t Take It With You,” is July’s feel-good mainstage production.
Youth productions will be performed at The Norvell and include Shakespeare’s “Comedy of Errors,” which will be performed in September and October for all Rowan County eighth graders.
In November, a popular children’s book will come alive on stage with Junie B. in “Jingle Bells, Batman Smells!” It’s about first grader Junie B. Jones, who gets into some holiday mischief.
February will bring the family musical “Honk,” the story of Ugly, whose ungainly looks cause his friends and neighbors to be prejudiced against him.
“Cinderella” comes to the Norvell in May. This play is a straightforward version of the famous tale.
In July, the PPT youth will perform a new Broadway youth musical called “13.” This high-energy show for all ages is about Evan Goldman, who’s just moved from New York to a small town in Indiana — where fitting in is easier said than done.
Season tickets give ticket-holders five shows for the price of four.
A “Pick-A-Seat” option (Meroney only) allows season ticket holders to reserve the same seat for every show. Patron Donors ($150 and above) will have their names printed in the playbill as PPT supporters.
Season ticket prices are, per person, $60 for mainstage productions, $50 for seniors and students and $45 for Wednesday Value Nights.
Season tickets for youth productions at the Norvell are $50 per person and $40 for students and seniors. A family pack is also available, with two adult and two student tickets for $170.
