A Salisbury couple faces child abuse and drug charges after deputies say the woman had a prescription pill bottle in her cleavage when stopped by authorities.
According to a Rowan County Sheriff’s Office report, Candese Hoyt, 22, and Matthew Morgan, 19, were arrested at a traffic stop on Miller Chapel Road Friday evening.
Deputy Daniel Myers reported that he stopped Hoyt’s silver Jeep Grand Cherokee and that she had a pill bottle “stuck between her breasts.” The bottle contained clonazepam and Dilaudid tablets.
After searching the vehicle, deputies found two pill scrapers in the woman’s purse, the report said, along with additional pill bottles under the seat and in her purse.
Hoyt’s boyfriend, Matthew Morgan, and their 7-month-old daughter were also in the vehicle.
As authorities searched the vehicle, Myers noticed Morgan nervously touching a container. Authorities searched the container, finding four individually packaged bags of marijuana.
The Department of Social Services was contacted and the infant was placed in the custody of a family member.
Hoyt and Morgan are both listed at 4860 Jack Brown Road and were charged with felony possession with intent to manufacture, sell and deliver marijuana, child abuse and possession of drug paraphernalia. Hoyt was also charged with possession of clonazepam and possession of Dilaudid.
They were both given a $3,000 bond and were released after posting bond.
