A 15-year-old is in a juvenile custody facility Monday after deputies say he tried to burn his house down with his mother inside because she took his cell phone.
According to a Rowan County Sheriffís Office report, Autumn Moose Cook called authorities at about 7 p.m. on Thursday and said her son poured gasoline throughout her home at 121 Wingate Lane, damaged several items and had a lighter.
When Deputy Kevin Myers responded to the incident, the teen admitted to it, the report said. Cook then told Myers that her sonís cell phone had been taken away as a ědisciplinary measure.î
Cook told deputies the teenager ěhad become destructive and destroyed several items in the house, demanding the cell phone back,î the report said.
At some point, the 15-year-old went to the garage and got a gasoline can and began pouring it throughout the house while the mother was inside, the report said, and threatened to use the lighter.
Cook told authorities she left the residence and called 911 but the teenager continued throwing rocks at her even as she stood outside.
After being charged, the 15-year-old was placed into a juvenile custody facility.
