Azusa deanís list
Kannapolis resident and Azusa Pacific University student Maurie R. Speed made the academic deanís list at APU. Speed is honored for a spring 2011 academic standing of 3.5 or better grade-point average. Speed is a theater arts major.
Gardner-Webbgraduates
A total of 273 students recently graduated during Gardner-Webb Universityís 2011 summer commencement exercises. Graduates from the local region included the following:
Gina Goff of Cleveland, who graduated with a BSN degree in nursing.
Kenneth Rivers of Mocksville, who graduated with a BS degree in business administration.
Denise Mack of Lexington, who graduated with a BS degree in accounting.
Charlie Swaringen of Albemarle, who graduated with a BS degree in accounting.
Diane Rodgers of Landis, who graduated with a BSN degree in nursing.
Debra Disco of Mooresville, who graduated magna cum laude with a BS degree in criminal justice.
Adam DeLand of Salisbury, who graduated with a MA degree in school administration.
Daniel Gonzalez awarded Leadership Scholarship
Chick-fil-A Inc. recently announced that Granite Quarry student Daniel Gonzalez has been awarded the $1,000 Leadership Scholarship. The scholarship program provides assistance to restaurant employees who want to further their education.
Gonzalez was nominated by Bo Hawkins, operator of the Chick-fil-A at Towne Creek Commons.
Gonzalez will also be eligible for the S. Truett Cathy Scholar Award for $1,000 to the top 25 Chick-fil-A Leadership Scholarship recipients each year.
Mercer graduate
Mary Kathryn Drye of Salisbury earned a bachelor of science in psychology from the College of Liberal Arts of Mercer University during the May commencement for the Universityís Macon campus.
