Salisburyís girls tennis team won 7-2 on the road at Asheville on Saturday.
Erika Nelson, Madeline Hoskins, Sallie Kate Meyerhoeffer and Alexandra Drye won singles matches.
Joy Loeblein lost at No. 1 singles to the defending 3A state champ, while Katelyn Storey lost a close match at No. 2.
Nelson-Loeblein, Hoskins-Storey and Drye-Meyerhoeffer swept doubles.
The Hornets lost 5-4 at home against the 3A power last season.

Former South Rowan athlete Matt Gryder made a hole-in-one at Warrior on Saturday.
Gryder used a 9-iron to ace the 151-yard No. 6 hole. He was playing with Rob Burke, Eddie Beaver and Eldrick T. Woods.
n Elliot Gealy (Salisbury) shot 68-72 ó 140 in the Nationwide Tourís Midland Classic in Overland Park, Ks. but didnít make the cut. The cutline fell at 137.
n Major leagues
Bobby Parnell (East Rowan) pitched a scoreless eighth inning for the New York Mets on Saturday and would have been the winning pitcher had Milwaukee not rallied for four runs in the ninth against Jason Isringhausen for an 11-9 victory.
n Minor leagues
Spencer Arroyo pitched eight strong innings and Trayce Thompson hit two homers and drove in four runs to lead the first-place Kannapolis Intimidators to a 6-2 win against Hagerstown on Saturday night.
n Craige Lyerly (East Rowan, Catawba) had four hits in Hudson Valleyís 6-4 win against State College on Friday. Lyerly stole his 17th base and boosted his batting average to .296.
n Catcher Ryan Query (A.L. Brown) continues his travels in the Atlanta Braves farm system.
Query was moved up to Lynchburg, Va., recently after a stint at Rome, Ga.
Query has also played at Danville, Va., and Pearl, Miss., this season.
n Keegan Linza (North Rowan) lost his first decision of the season when he allowed two runs ó one earned ó in the 13th inning of Bristolís 8-6 loss to Princeton on Saturday.
n Wilmingtonís Whit Merrifield (Davie) went 2-for-3 on Saturday in a 6-2 win against Salem and is batting .261.
n Youth football
The Salisbury 49ers are seeking football players and cheerleaders for the fall season.
Positions are open on all four teams (ages 5-6, 7-8, 9-10 and 11-12).
Registration will be held Aug. 22, 23 and 25 at Towne Creek Park at 5:30 p.m.
