Cannon School
CONCORD ó Cannon School had its first day of school Monday.
More than 860 students attend the school, which is located on a 65-acre campus off I-85 and Poplar Tent Road in Concord.
The school employs 90 full-time faculty members. The student to teacher ratio is 9.5 to 1.
Cannon School is the first independent school in the state to achieve dual accreditation by Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and Southern Association of Independent Schools.
The school has more than 30 sports teams, including football, soccer, volleyball and tennis. It is a member of the North Carolina Independent Schools Athletic Association and a member of the Charlotte Independent Schools Athletic Association (CISAA) with Charlotte Christian School, Charlotte Country Day School, Charlotte Latin School and Providence Day School.
Cannonís 19 buses cover four counties with pick-up points in the Concord and Salisbury areas.
The school will host open houses on the following dates:
10 a.m. Oct. 7 ó junior kindergarten through fourth grades
7 p.m. Oct. 13 ó junior kindergarten through 12th grades
1 p.m. Nov. 5 ó junior kindergarten through 12th grades

Clearview Christian Academy
CLEVELAND ó Clearview Christian Academy will kick off its fall semester at 8 a.m. Tuesday with about 65 students.
The school, at 200 Clearview Road, Cleveland, will host an open house at 6:30 p.m. today.
Middle school soccer, basketball, cross-country and volleyball are offered at the school.
Class size is small with a 10 to 1 student to teacher ratio.

Sacred Heart Catholic School
SALISBURY ó Sacred Heart Catholic School begins classes Monday with about 240 students in pre-kindergarten through eighth grades.
Normal school operating hours are 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. with onsite before-school care starting at 7:30 a.m. and after- school care until 6 p.m. The school is on the campus of Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Lumen Christi Lane, off Jake Alexander Boulevard near Isenberg School.
Frank Cardelle serves as the principal with 17 full-time and 11 part-time staff.
The school is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and the Diocese of Charlotte. It is also certified by the N.C. Division of Non-Public Instruction.
Sacred Heart offers an advanced curriculum in language arts, math, science, social studies and computer technology. All curriculums are based on the N.C. Standard Course of Study, enhanced and extended by Charlotte Diocesan school standards.
The school offers 15 different sports, including teams in soccer, basketball, tennis and golf.
Sacred Heart is a member of the CCISSA and JPAC conferences.

Salisbury Academy
SALISBURY ó Salisbury Academy will begin school Wednesday with about 160 students.
New parent orientation is 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. today, and the Student and Family Drop-In is from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday.
The campus is located at 2210 Jake Alexander Blvd. N. near the intersection of Jake Alexander Boulevard and Statesville Boulevard.
The school has 25 faculty and five staff members. After-school care is offered at the school until 6 p.m. each day.
Salisbury Academy uses the Core Knowledge Sequence developed by E.D. Hirsh to deliver curriculum in a logical way that is developmentally appropriate. Field trips, hands-on projects and guest speakers bring the curriculum to life for the students.
Salisbury Academy is a member of the Core Knowledge Network and Foundation, North Carolina Association of Independent Schools and the National Association of Independent Schools. The school is accredited by the Southern Association of Independent Schools.

Rockwell Christian School
ROCKWELL ó Rockwell Christian School will begin its school year at 8 a.m. Monday, Aug. 29, with about 130 students.
The Baptist school has 15 full-time staff members and is located at 401 Depot St. in Rockwell.
An open house will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 26.
The teacher to student ratio is 1 to 12.
Based upon the A Beka curriculum, elementary classes feature daily Bible instruction, language arts (spelling, penmanship and reading), math, social studies, science and physical education skills in a traditional classroom setting. Additional weekly activities include chapel, music, computer, art, Spanish and sign language classes.
In addition to opportunities in volleyball, soccer, basketball and cheerleading, students compete annually at their regional student convention in more than 140 events including academics, arts, music, athletics and platform presentations.

North Hills Christian School
SALISBURY ó North Hills Christian School will begin classes at 8:05 a.m. Wednesday with an enrollment of about 360 students.
The school, located in Salisbury, is a co-educational, non-denominational, college-preparatory Christian day school that serves students in preschool through high school.
North Hills is fully accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) and the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI).
Matt Mitchell, M.Ed., serves as Head of School and Leslie Pullen, M.Ed., serves as Associate Head of School. The school employs 55 faculty and staff members.
After school and before school care and summer day camp are available.
The schoolís philosophy of education is built upon teaching students to view the subjects they study through a biblical perspective.
The high school is a new member of the Southern Piedmont Athletic Association (SPAA) which is a part of the North Carolina Independent School Athletic Association (NCISAA). Varsity sports include basketball, cross country, golf, soccer, volleyball, softball and baseball.
The middle school participates in the PAC-8 competitive athletic conference. Middle school offerings include a variety of sports.
Elementary students compete in the J-PAC elementary school athletic conference. North Hills offers elementary basketball, cheerleading and volleyball.
