KANNAPOLIS ó Construction crews severed a natural gas line Wednesday while using a backhoe, forcing the evacuation of homes in the area.
At 1:31 p.m. Wednesday, the Kannapolis Fire Department responded to the call at 401 Janie St., which is just off of North Rose Avenue.
Firefighters began monitoring the area and evacuating homes as a precaution.
Hazardous Materials team members dug to provide access to the broken pipe and assisted PSNC with securing the leak.
Landis Fire Department and Odell Volunteer Fire Department provided district coverage during the incident and Cabarrus County EMS was on scene, but no injuries were reported.
Residents were allowed back in their homes within 90 minutes.
