The Rowan County Chamber of Commerce has kicked off its 20th year of the countywide leadership development program, Leadership Rowan.
The 21-member class was introduced at a reception and dinner at the Country Club of Salisbury. Approximately 60 class members, Chamber board members, employers and guests attended.
Class members for 2011-12 are Kelly Baker (city of Salisbury), Robin Baltimore (Rowan Regional Medical Center), Jessica Castrodale (Carolinas Medical Center NorthEast), Holly Czuba (Global Contact Services), Paula Dibley (Rowan-Cabarrus Community College), Jena Hare (Home Instead Senior Care), Linda Heeg-Krause (W.G. Hefner VA Medical Center), Katrina King (Rowan Regional Medical Center), Patricia Long (W.G. Hefner VA Medical Center), Michelle Macon (Partners in Learning Child Development Center), Amy Milenberg (W.G. Hefner VA Medical Center), Sandy Moore (F&M Bank) and Linda Pigg (Carolinas Medical Center NorthEast).

Class members went on a two-day retreat Aug. 12-14 and will attend a session each month through May to enhance their leadership skills and knowledge of Rowan County.
The program is designed to prepare individuals to assume leadership roles in the county and to further enhance the abilities of existing leaders.
“This program has proven itself many times over,” Chamber Chair of the Board Tom Loeblein said. “Graduates of Leadership Rowan can be seen serving in positions of leadership all over Rowan County. We look forward to another great class.”

New dentists in town
Dr. Blake Kingsbury has opened Salisbury Family Dentistry and Dr. Katie Clark has opened Salisbury Pediatric Dentistry for patients at 140 Mahaley Ave.
Kingsbury attended Florida State University while simultaneously spending a year in Europe between London and Florence, Italy. He received his undergrad from the University of Colorado in ceramic arts with a focus on pottery. He received his doctorate of medical dentistry from the Medical University of South Carolina. He participated in advanced education in general dentistry in Alamosa, Colo. He has been a potter for more than 10 years and continues to travel the world with his girlfriend, Kathryn.

Clark’s Salisbury Pediatric Dentistry accepts patients from their first tooth to 18 years old. As a pediatric specialist. she offers gentle dental care to infants, children, adolescents and compromised patients.
Clark received her doctorate of medical dentistry from the Medical University of South Carolina. She also completed a residency at Richland Memorial Hospital in South Carolina and because of her passion for children went on to complete another residency in pediatric dentistry at the Medical University of South Carolina. Clark is trained in different levels of conscious sedation and nitrous oxide/laughing gas.

$8 back-to-school haircuts offered at Spencer salon
SPENCER — Tiffiany Davis Jones, a licensed cosmetologist/hairstylist, is owner of Cool Nogginz Hair Salon at 1101 S. Salisbury Ave.
The salon opened earlier this year, offering haircuts, coloring, highlights, waxings, facials and tanning services.
A grand opening celebration is scheduled from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 20., with hot dogs, ice cream, an inflatable bouncey house for the kids and a 50/50 cash raffle (with proceeds going toward putting in a wheelchair ramp; tickets start at $5).
All who attend will have a chance to win beauty services, coupons and free goodies.
Cool Nogginz also is offering $8 back to school haircuts.
Jones has been in the beauty industry for about 10 years.
“It’s my passion to make people feel great about their hair,” she said. “It’s more then just hair to me. It’s developing relationships with clients that then become like family. I look forward to seeing them weekly or monthly. Plus you never know who will walk though the door.”
She said being a hairstylist doesn’t even feel like a real job. “I tell people I play beauty shop for a living. I often think what a blessing I have to have a job that I love,” she said.
She saw a little stone building go up for rent in April. “For the last four years, I thought it would make a cute little beauty shop,” she said.
Everything fell into place and she took it.
Her 11-year-old daughter Jessiany helped pick the name: Cool Nogginz Hair Salon.
Sarah Jackson is also a hairstylist at the salon. Her favorite area of hairdressing is color. She has fun creating personal color techniques for each customer. She graduated from Rowan-Cabarrus Community College.

Walker Marketing adds senior account supervisor
CONCORD — Walker Marketing has recently hired Jennifer Garber as senior account supervisor in charge of public relations. Garber will serve in a leadership role for the agency’s newly awarded Astellas Pharmaceutical account, among others.

She brings a wealth of public relations experience, including media relations, publicity campaigns, social media, issues management and crisis communications. The Villas at Logan Gardens holds grand opening in Concord
CONCORD — The Villas at Logan Gardens, a new apartment home community for senior citizens, is completed and open for residents to move in. The community was created by a public-private partnership between Douglas Development LLC, Halcon Development LLC, the city of Concord and the N.C. Housing Finance Agency. A grand opening ceremony was held Thursday.
The 44-unit apartment home community was built for seniors 62 and older with incomes less than 50 percent of the median area income. The apartments are at 210 Booker Drive near the Logan Multi-Purpose Center. The one-bedroom units will rent for $645 and the two-bedroom units will rent for $726.
The community was built with an allocation of $355,586 from city of Concord. Douglas Development received approximately $3.4 million in exchange funds and loans from the North Carolina Housing Finance Agency, as well as $1 million in conventional financing through the Community Investment Corporation of the Carolinas, a coalition of banks. The total cost was approximately $4.8 million.
