Literary Bookpost will host a reception and book signing with Larry K. Neal Jr., author of “Southern Railway’s Historic Spencer Shops,” on Friday, Aug. 19, 5-7 pm.
Neal is chief of museum operations and education at the North Carolina Transportation Museum in Spencer. Neal wrote the book on behalf of the museum, which, with its affiliated nonprofit, the North Carolina Transportation Museum Foundation, is dedicated to preserving the moving stories of people on the go in the Tar Heel State.
Southern Railways’ Historic Spencer Shops is part of the Arcadia Publishing Images of Rail series and was released for distribution on Aug. 8. With 127 pages and approximately 230 historical photographs, the book is divided into five chapters covering the creation of the town of Spencer and the origin of the shops to the final years of the Southern Railway operations in Spencer. Chapters include steam locomotive engines and repair, diesel locomotive engines and repair, and the people of the shops. The book should be considered a major addition to the archives of the Spencer Shops.
Literary Bookpost is at 110 S. Main St.in downtown Salisbury. For additional information about this event, call 704 630-9788 or visit www.literarybookpost.com.
