The 1959 graduating class of Landis High School met Saturday evening, Aug. 6, to commiserate their 52nd reunion.
The festivities took place at the First United Methodist Church in China Grove and was a resounding success.
The former classmates shared stories of past glory with folks who, as part of a cost-reduction plan, werenít wearing name tags. This resulted in neither of the conversationalists having the slightest idea to whom they were talking.
Despite this barrier, the group was all too anxious to join the chow line where everyone recognized the four star menu and gorged on roast beef, pheasant, exotic vegetables, desserts and imported tea and water.
When the noisy chewing subsided, the real excitement began. Bill Measmerís tribute to the Grand Ole Opry featured performances by singers now gone on to the Happy Hunting Ground … and then there was Willie Nelson.
To top off the evening, Bruce Edwards, a stand-up comic straight from Comedy Central, regaled the audience with stories from his childhood as well as some from his adulthood, of which he isnít aware he has reached ó which is a good thing.
As the uproarious times came to an end, even more fun ensued when the classmates filed out to the parking lot and tried to remember which car was theirs. Despite all this, the class of 1959 ěYellow Jacketsî plan to do it again next year.
