Cooperative Extension in Rowan County is taking orders for 80-gallon rain barrels. Funds generated from the rain barrel sale will be used to implement Master Gardener demonstration gardens at the Agricultural Center on Old Concord Road.
Barrels sold are premium rain barrels that fill from any size gutter downspout through a bug-proof entry cover. The barrel features a solid brass spigot which easily connects to garden or soaker hoses for vegetable or flower gardens.
There are also two overflow ports which can connect to standard water hoses, diverting excess rain away from your home to nearby shrub or landscape areas. These are heady duty barrels with ribbed sides for strength with a removable top for easy spring cleaning.
Cost of the 80-gallon barrel is $100. Deadline to order barrels is Aug. 26. The rain barrels will be available for pick up at the Extension Office, 2727-A, Old Concord Road in Salisbury on Aug. 31. To place an order, visit the Rowan County Master Gardener website at www.rowanmastergardener.com or contact darrell_blackwelder@ncsu.edu or call the Cooperative Extension Service at 704-216-8970.
