SALISBURY — A former teacher accused of having sex with a student is in jail on three counts of violating his probation on unrelated convictions.
Zachary Paul Greene, 30, is under $10,000 bond in the Rowan County Detention Center. He was placed in jail Monday, according to county records.
Greene, of 810 Fourth St., Spencer, was convicted in June of driving while impaired on June 29, 2010, about two months after resigning from the Rowan-Salisbury School System amid allegations he had sex with a student while teaching English at North Rowan High School.
A Spencer Police Department officer charged Greene with driving while impaired after seeing his pickup swerving on Salisbury Avenue. Greene registered a .25 blood-alcohol level, more than three times the legal limit, police said.
When convicted on that charge last month, Greene received 18 months probation. According to N.C. Department of Correction records, that sentence was to run concurrent with November 2010 convictions of driving while impaired and carrying a concealed weapon in Cabarrus County.
Greene is still awaiting trial on the three felony counts of having sex with a student.
