A Salisbury man was given a citation for simple possession of marijuana after he and a friend asked a passing deputy for a ride early Saturday morning.
According to the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office, Ronald Powers Jr., of 35 Knox St., and a friend were stopped by a passing officer on Bringle Ferry Road at about 7 a.m. Saturday.
The two asked Deputy D.W. Dearth if he could give them a ride to Dunnsview Drive, about 2 1/2 miles away.
Dearth said he would, but the two would have to be searched first. Powers informed the officer that he had a small bag of marijuana in his right front pocket.
After searching the two, the 25-year-old was given a citation and released. The report did not state if the deputy then gave the two a ride.
