Heavy rains, wreck cause I-85 to close

Heavy rain showers and thunderstorms have caused flash flooding in the greater Charlotte area.
Due to a vehicle accident all lanes of I-85 northbound are closed at the 18 mile marker near Gastonia, in Gaston County. The lanes are not expected to reopen until later tonight. Motorists are asked to use caution in the area and seek alternate routes to avoid delays.
Flash flood warnings currently extend from Mecklenburg to parts of Gaston and Lincoln counties, but may soon be extended.
In Rowan County, numerous showers and thunderstorms are predicted this afternoon and throughout this evening with temperatures staying in the lower 80s.
There are currently no flood warnings issued by the National Weather Service for Rowan County.
