EAST SPENCER ó Southern City Tabernacle AME Zion Church and Shady Grove Baptist Church will have a joint Vacation Bible School during the week of Aug. 8-12, from 5:30-8:30 p.m at the Paul Laurence Dunbar Center, 800 S. Long St.
This is a community outreach project for both churches. School supplies will be distributed to the children in attendance. If you would like to donate school supplies, bring them to the Dunbar Center between 6-8 p.m.
Cedar Grove choir
CLEVELAND ó The Cedar Grove Gospel Choir 55th anniversary celebration begins today, Aug. 6, at 7 p.m. and continues on Sunday, August 7, at 2:30 p.m. at Cedar Grove AME Zion Church, 2430 Hildebrand Road. In- and out-of-town groups will participate.
Pine Ridge Baptist
CHINA GROVE ó On Sunday Aug. 7, Pine Ridge Baptist Church, 880 Old Linn Road, hosts the Singing Deacons from Grace Bible Church, beginning the 10 a.m. service with an hour of music. Pastor Bradshaw will bring a message and lunch will follow in the fellowship hall. The evening service begins at 6 p.m. following a time of prayer.
Phaniels Baptist
ROCKWELL ó Phaniels Baptist Church, 2685 Phaniels Church Road, celebrates 115 years with homecoming on Sunday, Aug. 7. Former pastor Bill Freeman will speak. Sunday School begins at 9:45 a.m. and worship begins at 11.
South China Grove Church of God
CHINA GROVE ó On Sunday, Aug. 7, in the 11 a.m. service, pastor Joyce Miles and the Rev. Margaret Lackey will perform their own drama rendition of ěThe Wise and the Foolish Virginsî at the South China Grove Church of God, 163 Third Ave.
Nadler at Calvary
This Sunday, Aug. 7, Dr. Sam Nadler will speak at Calvary Baptist Church to the adult classes during Sunday school and to the entire church at 11 a.m.
Nadler grew up a Jewish child on the streets of New York City, then accepted Christ and began a ministry of outreach to Jews and Gentiles. Nadler is speaker for ěWord of Messiah Ministriesî headquartered in Charlotte.
Calvary Baptist Church is located on East Ridge Road.
Dorsett Chapel
Dorsett Chapel United Church of Christ will celebrate homecoming Sunday, Aug. 7, with guests pastor Claude Forehand and congregation of Buncombe Baptist Church at the 3 p.m. service.
Revival will be held Aug. 8-12 at 7 p.m. Mondayís service features pastor Leamon Brown of First Calvary Baptist Church; Tuesday-Fridayís guest speaker is the Rev. Herbert Davis of Nehemiah Christian Center in Raleigh.
New Destiny begins
Bishop Paul S. Rhinehart and New Destiny Temple of Faith begin Sunday services Aug. 7 at 11 a.m. and Wednesday services at the 7 p.m. Wow Hour. All services will be held at the Livingstone College Chapel (the old renovated Hood Seminary Building), 814 W. Thomas St.
Crisis distribution
CONCORD ó On Sunday, Aug. 7, Concord First Assembly (CFA) hosts an open house for the newly completed expansion of its Crisis Distribution Center. Following the open house at 3 p.m. Concord mayor Scott Padgett will participate in the ribbon cutting ceremony.
The expansion marks a significant increase in capacity, from 15 to 200 clients per day. Annual food assistance will rise from the current $100,000 to an estimated $1 million.

CHINA GROVE ó Main Street Baptist Church, 1615 N. Main St., will hold Vacation Bible School Aug. 7-12, from 6-8:30 p.m.The theme is ěBig Apple Adventure,î under the direction of Dean and Jennifer Beaver.
New Gilead VBS
CONCORD ó VBS will be held at New Gilead Reformed Church, 2400 Old Salisbury Road, Aug. 8-11 from 5:30-8 p.m. with the theme of ěGodís Creation.î
There will be a pet show, frog races, Bible study, games and food, including a light meal each evening.
Union Lutheran
Union Lutheran Church NALC, 4770 Bringle Ferry Road, holds Mission Week services Thursday and Friday Aug. 11- 12 at 7 p.m. including a hymn sing and closing with an ice cream social.
Thursdayís focus is global missions and the women of the congregation will display dresses made for little girls in Africa, modeled by girls from the congregation. The dresses will then be sent to Africa through the Samaritanís Feet organization.
Fridayís focus is home missions, with the dedication of an access ramp to be built for a local family
Family skeet shoot
MOCKSVILLE ó AIM Sportsmen Ministry and Jerusalem Baptist Church of Mocksville are sponsoring a skeet shoot at Camp Manna, 243 Gibson Way, on Saturday, Aug. 13, from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. A 100-round shoot with t-shirt and lunch is $25 per person.

Musical presentation
CONCORD ó Maestro Eddie Brown Jr. and cast, crew and choir will present a theatrical musical presentationat Shiloh Baptist Church, 255 Logan Ave., titled ěItís About Time For A Miracleî on Saturday, Aug. 13, at 7 p.m.
Music is provided by The Shiloh Baptist Church Mass Choir, (former) Total Praise and Nu Vision Community Choirs combined, with special appearances by Dr. Terry Poteat and the Joyful Praise Community Singers of Greensboro, Shiloh Baptist Church Praise Team and Desmond Archie and ěa powerful dynamic mimeî of Bethel Baptist Ministries of Kannapolis.
