BOONE ó Appalachian State Universityís athletics ticket office shattered its previous record for one-day sales on Wednesday, the first day that single-game tickets for the 2011 football season were available to the general public.
Appalachian brought in over 28 percent more revenue on Wednesday than it did on the previous high-water mark for one-day sales, which was the first day that single-game football tickets were available in 2009. Wednesdayís sales topped the haul on last yearís first day of single-game sales by more than 38 percent.
As expected, the highest demand was for Southern Conference showdowns versus Chattanooga (Sept. 24), Georgia Southern (Oct. 29) and Samford (Oct. 22), in that order, and few reserved seats remain for any of those three games. ASU athletics ticket manager Steve White anticipates that reserved seats for the UTC game could sell out as early as Thursday and that only general-admission grass seating could remain for all three games by the end of the week.
As for road games, Appalachianís allotment of tickets for the Sept. 3 season opener at Virginia Tech sold out within two hours on Wednesday morning. ASU has held back a block of Virginia Tech tickets for Appalachian students. Details on when ASU students can purchase those tickets will be finalized in the coming days.
ASUís allotment for the Nov. 19 regular-season finale at Elon sold out before single-game tickets went on sale to the general public but tickets remain for games at Wofford (Oct. 1), The Citadel (Oct. 15) and Furman (Nov. 5).
All remaining single-game tickets, home and away, can be purchased 24 hours a day, seven days a week at GoASU.com, as well as by phone or in person during regular ticket-office hours.
