KANNAPOLIS—The Mooresville woman charged Tuesday after authorities said she embezzled money from her employer is reported to have stolen at least $100,000.
According to the North Carolina Court System’s website, Crystal Dawn Overcash has a court date on Sept. 21 and will be charged with felony embezzlement of $100,000 or more.
Overcash, 37, was arrested and charged with embezzlement by an employee after her employer, Franklin Homes Construction, reported to authorities on Dec. 24, 2010, that they had “uncovered some discrepancies.”
Guy and Terri Wing are the owners of Franklin Homes Construction, 2875 Cannon Blvd., Kannapolis, according to the report.
Neither Overcash nor the Wing family could be reached for comment.
The Rowan County Sheriff’s Office did not disclose the embezzled amount.
The report said authorities audited the company’s accounts and found there were “some payments that (the owners) had not intended to pay.” The payments had been made from the company’s business account.
According to the report, Overcash, of 4260 Unity Church Road, Mooresville, has been employed by the company since 1999. It is unclear if she was still employed by Franklin Homes Construction at the time of arrest.
Overcash was given a $100,000 bond. She was released after posting bond.
