Cottey presidentís list
Taylor Woods, daughter of Michele Tolbert of Salisbury and Allen Woods of Charlotte, has been placed on the presidentís list for her scholastic performance at Cottey College during the spring 2011 semester.
In order to be on the presidentís list, the studentís grade point average must be between a 3.75 and 4.0 on a 4.0 scale, with a minimum of 12 credit hours completed.
Cottey College is in Nevada, Mo.
Draper receives EducationExchange College Grant
Taylor Draper of Landis received a $1,000 Education Exchange 2011 College Grant.
A graduate of South Rowan High School, Draper was a member of the National Honor Society, president of the varsity Chorus, president of Interact Club, yearbook editor and a member of the varsity soccer team.
She has performed extensively in local musical, choral and dramatic performances.
Taylor will attend the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in the fall to major in vocal performance.
The Education Exchange is sponsored annually by the ACCEL/Exchange Network and is supported by Southern Select Community Credit Union in Kannapolis.
Grant recipients are selected based on academic achievement, community involvement, qualities of character and leadership and financial need.
Gray Scholarship winner
The 2011 Morgan R. Gray Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $650 was awarded to William Brandon McKinzie, a graduate of McKinzie Academy.
Among his accomplishments and activities: He served as treasurer on the student council of Rowan County Home School Association, participated in both North Hills and Greater Cabarrus Athletic Association basketball leagues, Community Chorales and the Piedmont Youth Theater production of ěTom Sawyer.î
McKinzie also gave back to the community through service at the Catawba Center for the Environment, Rowan Helping Ministries, Samaritanís Purse and Angel Tree. His parents are Steve and Anna McKinzie of Salisbury. He will attend Covenant College in Lookout Mountain, Ga.
Savannah Collegedeanís list
Local residents have been named to the deanís list at the Savannah College of Art and Design for spring quarter 2011. Full-time undergraduate students who earn a grade point average of 3.5 or above for the quarter receive recognition on the deanís list.
Logan Childress of China Grove is seeking a bachelor of fine arts degree in illustration.
Michelle Kuvinka of Salisbury is seeking a bachelor of fine arts degree in interior design.
Erin Wootten of Salisbury is seeking a bachelor of fine arts degree in fibers.
Safrit in Sigma Alpha Lambda
Elizabeth Scott Safrit of Kannapolis has been recognized as a member of Sigma Alpha Lambda, national leadership and honors organization, at the University of South Carolina.
Sigma Alpha Lambda is a national group dedicated to promoting and rewarding academic achievement.
