A Salisbury man was arrested Monday after reportedly telling police he was robbed.
According to a Rowan County Sheriff’s Office report, Charles Bangert, 31, called police to his home at 725 Lillian Circle at about 2:30 a.m. on July 14 and told authorities he was robbed.
The 31-year-old reported that Frank and Paul Smith, whom he was familiar, had stolen his lawn mower, weed eater and hedge clipper.
When deputies contacted the two suspects, the Smiths were at the Rowan County Magistrate’s Office telling another deputy that they were robbed at knifepoint by Bangert.
According to the report, the Smiths went to Bangert’s house to collect money for scrapped metal. The report said Paul stepped outside, and when he did Bangert took $130 from Frank, threatening him with a blade.
After an investigation, deputies arrested Bangert, charging him with robbery with a dangerous weapon.
He was given a $26,500 bond.
