NEW YORK ó HBO will broadcast a documentary about Derek Jeterís pursuit of career hit No. 3,000.
Major League Baseball Productions is following the Yankees captain for a one-hour special called ěDerek Jeter 3K.î The network said Tuesday that Jeter agreed to let camera crews follow him at home and while he was rehabilitating a recent calf injury.
The documentary will include new interviews with family, friends and teammates. Also interviewed will be Jeterís girlfriend, Minka Kelly, and Yankees managing general partner Hal Steinbrenner. The program will air a few weeks after Jeter reaches the milestone.
The shortstop was at 2,994 hits after returning from the disabled list Monday and going hitless against Cleveland.
RIVERA OUT AGAIN
CLEVELAND ó Mariano Rivera has shut himself down for a second day.
New York’s star closer felt soreness while throwing and will not pitch Tuesday night when the Yankees play their second game against the Cleveland Indians. Rivera has a sore triceps muscle, and while the 41-year-old said he could pitch in an emergency, another day of treatment and rest would be better.
CAMERON TRADED
BOSTON ó The Boston Red Sox traded outfielder Mike Cameron to the Florida Marlins on Tuesday, less than a week after cutting the three-time Gold Glove winner.
The Red Sox sent the 38-year-old Cameron and cash to the Marlins for either a player to be named or cash.
Cameron hit just .149 with three home runs and nine RBIs in 33 games for Boston this season. He is a career .249 hitter with 272 homers and 296 stolen bases, and a three-time Gold Glove winner in 16 major-league seasons. The Marlins’ Jack McKeon managed Cameron when both were with Cincinnati in 1999.
HOME RUN DERBY
MILWAUKEE ó Milwaukee Brewers slugger Prince Fielder selected teammate Rickie Weeks, Los Angeles’ Matt Kemp and St. Louis’ Matt Holliday to represent the National League in Monday night’s Home Run Derby.
“It was very tough, I wanted everybody to be in it. I definitely wanted someone from the Diamondbacks to be in it,” Fielder said Tuesday.
Arizona hosts the All-Star game.
CLEMENS UPDATE
WASHINGTON ó A relaxed-looking Roger Clemens set foot here in U.S. District Court Tuesday for pretrial motions in his federal perjury case. He smiled and casually exchanged his chair for a more comfortable one at the defense table.
The 11-time All-Star pitcher is charged with obstruction of Congress, false statements and perjury for allegedly lying before the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform in 2008. He denied ever taking anabolic steroids or human growth hormone during his illustrious 24-year Major League career.
Jury selection is scheduled to begin today, and opening statements likely will take place early next week.
DODGERS BANKRUPTCY
DOVER, Del. ó The Los Angeles Dodgers are asking a Delaware judge to order Major League Baseball to turn over documents related to the league’s opposition to the team’s proposed bankruptcy financing plan.
According to a motion filed Tuesday, a Sunday conference call between league and team attorneys highlighted a disagreement over the documents that MLB was willing to turn over, prompting the latest court filing.
