SALISBURY — Authorities said a man acting strangely during a Wednesday night traffic checkpoint yielded a drug arrest and a citation for marijuana possession.
The Salisbury Police charged Michael Wayne Brooker, 23, 318 Cedar Drive, Salisbury, with possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine.
Brooker was digging around in his pants near his groin area. He refused officer’s commands to remove his hand. He was removed from the vehicle and searched.
Officer Suad Jakupovic found bags containing crack rocks in his underwear. Later, officers found more rocks on Brooker, which totaled 15 rocks or 11 grams.
A passenger, Montraye Hemphill, was cited after he told the officer he had marijuana on him.
Hemphill was cited for possession of marijuana.
Police Chief Rory Collins credits the Police Interdiction Team with the increased number of arrests made during traffic stops.
Jakupovic is not a part of the interdiction team, but handled the arrest.
