SALISBURY — A Salisbury man was shocked with a stun gun and arrested Tuesday afternoon when police say he ran from an officer after stealing video games from Walmart.
The Salisbury Police Department responded to a report of a larceny at Walmart, located at 323 S. Arlington St., at around 2:15 p.m. Tuesday.
An officer drove around the area and found Matthew Eugene Houston, 26, of 3084 Stokes Ferry Road, hiding in the bushes near a guardrail.
The officer ordered Houston to come out and lie down, and he hesitated but did what he was told, according to the police report.
But when the officer went to get some items visible in the bushes, police say Houston took off running in the direction of the nearby Kmart.
According to the report, the officer told Houston to stop twice and then used a stun gun on him as he climbed up an embankment. Afterward, Houston fully complied with police.
The items stolen were identified as Xbox video games worth $43.20.
Houston was arrested and charged with misdemeanor larceny and restrict, delay and obstruct a public officer. He was taken to the Rowan County Detention Center and given a $1,000 bond.
