In case you missed it, the Salisbury-Rowan Symphony Guild treated local flower and landscape lovers to a good garden tour last weekend, the Festival of Spring Gardens.
For a $12 or $15 ticket, participants got to tour eight gardens, from the West Square Historic District to the far reaches of Steeplechase Drive. Hydrangeas, coneflowers, roses and hostas were among the dayís stars ó as well as tomatoes and herbs ó along with artists in action at different stops.
Master Gardeners were on hand to answer questions and promote the ěRetro Flower Showî theyíll be holding Saturday at the Agriculture Center on Old Concord Road.
Garden clubs may be a thing of the past; the Pine Tree Garden Club was Salisburyís last holdout, holding its last meeting in 1995. But interest in gardening is alive and growing. It fits right in with todayís emphasis on the environment, local foods and curb appeal. Thanks to the Symphony Guild for promoting gardening as well as music.
