KANNAPOLIS — A 24-year-old Kannapolis woman is behind bars and facing murder charges.
The Rowan County Sheriff’s Office arrested and charged Ebony Justine Smith, 1215 Guinn Ave., in the fatal stabbing of James Damion Mack Jr., 17, of 1215 Guinn Ave.
The sheriff’s office was dispatched to the Guinn Avenue home in response to a suicide Saturday afternoon, according to a press release.
When investigators arrived on the scene they found evidence that was not consistent with a suicide.
After reviewing the evidence, detectives determined the crime was the result of domestic violence.
Smith did not receive bond. She will be held in the Rowan County Detention Center until her first court appearance at 9 a.m. Tuesday.
