SALISBURY – An East Spencer parent was arrested Friday morning after authorities say he said he threatened to blow up E Hanford Dole Elementary School.
Samuel Lee Archie McBryde, 32, of 301 E. Henderson St. in East Spencer, was at the school around 10:45 a.m. Friday to pick up his daughter from an end-of-year assembly when Assistant Principal Marvin Moore came outside to speak with him.
According to the report from the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office, McBryde became irate, raised his voice and threatened the assistant principal. Moore reported that McBryde said he would return to the school, kill anybody in his way and then blow up the school.
Sheriff’s deputies then were called to respond to a disturbance. An off-duty state trooper who was at the school for his own child saw the incident and told deputies Moore’s account was accurate.
McBryde was arrested and charged with communicating threats. He was placed in the Rowan County Detention Center under a $1,000 bond and ordered not to go within 100 feet of E Hanford Dole Elementary School until after the case is resolved in court.
